The Michigan Council of Deliberation, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Prince Hall Affiliation, Northern Jurisdiction, Inc. (MCOD), in 1991 established the Michigan Council of Deliberation Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (MCODSF) for the purpose of operating as its talent search arm to identify talented and achievement oriented youth, and to assist them with the cost of attending college.
Since then more than three hundred youth who have achieved academic excellence in their high school preparation, have undergone the rigorous scrutiny of the Scholarship Committee in search of fund to attend the college of their choice. Of these, six to ten awards are made annually. Once an award is made, recipients are eligible for continuing awards for four years while while pursuing the undergraduate degree, or professional certificate. MCODSF has made more than $135,000 in awards to 62 students from all over the State of Michigan since its beginning.
There are four award categories: The $2,000.00 Booker T. Alexander Award: the $1,500.00 Homer E. Gaines Award: the $1,000.00 Wendolyne C. Terrelle Award: and the $500.00 Marc Stepp Vocation and Skill trades Award. these are given to applicants annually. the $1,000.00 MCOD Continuing Scholarship Award is given annually to previous recipients who have met our college achievement expectation. A recipient may qualify for this award for up to four years. the Foundation also selects a recipient for the $1,000.00 United supreme Council Scholarship Award. In total, the MCODSF awards from six to twelve thousand annually to deserving and talented students.
